ESA's Moon mission ends successfully
After 2 years in orbit around the Moon, the European Space Agency (ESA) probe SMART-1 has ended its mission on 3 September. As planned, the spacecraft crashed into the plain Lacus Excellentiae (Lake of Excellence) with a scheduled time of 07:42:22 CEST. more ... | ESA | :: UH
This oblique view of the lunar surface was taken on 2 September 2006 by the AMIE camera on board SMART-1 during the last few orbits prior to Moon impact, and provides a good view of the Moon's horizon.
