Der von der GAL 2004 beantragte und von der Kulturbehörde jetzt vorgestellte Erste Kulturwirtschaftsbericht für Hamburg will belegen, dass der Kultursektor in der Hansestadt längst ein leistungsfähiger Wirtschaftszweig geworden ist.

In dem Bericht wurden wichtige Bereiche der Hamburger Kulturwirtschaft wie Werbung, PR, Film, Funk und Fernsehen nicht aufgenommen. "Die Bedeutung der Kulturwirtschaft wird dadurch klein gerechnet. Folgerichtig misslingt es, die Rolle der Kulturwirtschaft für Hamburg nachzuweisen. Der Bericht ist damit wertlos, vielleicht sogar schädlich," formuliert Willfried Maier, kulturpolitischer Sprecher der GAL, die Kritik seiner Bürgerfraktion. :: UH

Doch es gibt auch Ausnahmen, die den Spagat zwischen Autoren- und Tierfilm schaffen. 3sat stellt in der Filmreihe 'Animalische Begegnungen' einige davon vor. :: UH

In July 2005 Jem Finer, a founder member of the Pogues, won the PRS Foundation New Music Award. The prize was a sum of money with which to realise the project proposed as an entry to the competition. The award is open to anybody, anywhere, for any project covered by the widest conceivable definition of music.
'This piece of music depends neither on the longevity of any energy source or technology, only on the ongoing existence of the planet and its weather systems,' Finer in his proposal for the competition. The most direct introduction is a 3 minute film made by Yeast

: Winter Arctic sea ice declining drastically

The amount of Arctic sea ice is shrinking not only in the summer but in the winter, as well, a NASA scientist reported on Wednesday. Researchers are linking the change directly to global warming.
In 2005 and 2006, the extent of winter ice was about 6% smaller than the average amount over the past 26 years. The retreat is also significantly larger than the long-term decrease of 1.5 to 2% in winter ice cover observed per decade over the same time period.

Researchers have long known that warmer temperatures have been causing more and more ice to melt during summer in the northern hemisphere, with the last four summers showing record lows in ice cover.
Now, Josefino Comiso of NASA’s Cryospheric Sciences Branch in Greenbelt, Maryland, US, has used satellite data stretching back to 1979 to show that less of the meltwater is refreezing in the wintertime.

“It is the strongest evidence yet in the Arctic of global warming,” Comiso said in a press conference on Wednesday.

With Jonah’s Green Shiro Matsui is impressively continuing the series of installative interventions that have made a considerable contribution to exhibition history in the Krefeld villas since the sixties. Shiro Matsui is completely filling Mies van der Rohe's fluent architectural interior of Haus Esters with a garishly coloured plastic envelope in light sailcloth.

Shiro Matsui setzt mit Jonah’s Green die Reihe der installativen Interventionen, die die Ausstellungsgeschichte der Krefelder Villen seit den sechziger Jahren wesentlich prägt, auf beeindruckende Weise fort. Das fließende Architekturkonzept im Innern des von Mies van der Rohe entworfenen Haus Esters füllt Shiro Matsui mit einer grellfarbigen Kunststoffhülle aus leichtem Segeltuch vollständig aus. Es entsteht ein biomorphes Gangsystem, in dem der Besucher sich bewegen kann. :: UH
